Course of Study & GRADUATION DISTINCTION

AGS Graduation Distinction
In addition to meeting all of the requirements for the Texas Recommended diploma set by the state of Texas, AGS students are asked to complete additional requirements in order to meet the mission and graduate profile of an ISSN (International Studies Schools' Network) scholar. Students must complete the following in order to earn the full ISSN Endorsement and AGS Graduation Distinction:
  • 4 years of credit in a single globally spoken world language (Spanish and French are offered on campus; students may take German or Chinese through Shared School options), OR students may earn 3 credits of the same spoken world language + 1 credit in a globally-focused elective
    • Globally-focused electives include: Model UN, Latin American Studies, Asian Studies, AP Human Geography, Women's Studies, Contemporary Issues, AP European History, an introductory course in another language (this may include Latin or ASL), Cine Las Americas, Dual Language electives (when offered), AP Environmental Science (or other electives approved by the Academy Office)
  • 80 Global Citizenship Points (service hours and global cultural experiences); additional honors awarded to 120+ points
  • Senior Seminar Experience (capstone service project, academy-focused internship, or CTE internship)
  • Comprehensive portfolio and presentation of interdisciplinary work based on global issues

Certificate of Distinction
Students who complete all requirements above will receive upon graduation an AHS graduation distinction certificate and gold graduation cords, verifying that they completed the AGS course of study and advanced distinctions, as approved by the International Studies Schools Network (ISSN) of the Asia Society.
Certificate of Participation
Students who are missing some of the requirements for the full endorsement (e.g. did not complete a Senior Seminar, did not complete the additional coursework or did not meet the global citizenship points requirement) are eligible to receive a certificate of participation upon graduation from Austin High. All AGS graduates will wear green, blue, and maroon graduation cords.
